Editing Dashboard - Removal

Here is my dash -series 3 GXE

I'm pulling it out to fix my trip computer and replace the broken surround around the fan controls
(caused by the previous owner of the car)

Remove the radio surroundings first.

One screw near the lighter and other two inside the ashtray area.

Pull away the radio facia and disconnect the wires to the cigarette lighter.

Next remove the screws from the steering wheel column cover.

Two screws hold it to the column from underneath and another four hold the two pieces together.
Remove all of these.

Pull them off and separate.

Silhouettes and Ti's have the key light (I do too) so remove the plug which goes to this if you have one.

Start pulling all the buttons out carefully (note my cruise is currently broken, i fixed this also that day)

I usually remove the big sturdy buttons first and then pry the smaller ones off from behind the button.

Push in the plugs club and remove the plugs (and label with black texta to remind you where they go if you want)

Next remove the dash itself.

Screws starting across the top and then down the bottom (including under the heater controls - they're kinda hidden)

Next put some towel, cloth anything to stop scratching the dash against the steering column.
Most Skylines I've seen with scratches around the dash bottom are due to pulling it out without enough care.

Pull the dash away from the top (pry from top and lift away with steering column being lowered down to lowest level)

Disconnect plugs from their sockets (when installing again, the plugs match the colour/pins of the sockets)

(Note: In this picture I have installed lights for cruise control in my dash like the Ti so have an extra plug external to the dash)

Remove the other side (oil lights etc).

I labelled the plugs so I didn't confuse them.

Dash is now out!

You can at this time check the clock/trip computer bulbs and replace if necessary.

Replace blown globes in the switches on the dash or fix other electrical problems.
