Door Trim - Removal
This is my door.
Remove reflector screws, lift out and pull plugs from behind (make sure not to lose them when you put the door back in)
Remove door handle (two screws underneath)
To remove the window winder, you need a small jewelers screwdriver to put underneath the plastic surround under the winder. A thin piece of metal with a hook on the end works well too (steal one of mums small crochet hooks!)
There is a metal spring in there.
Jam the screw driver into the spring to lever it away from the winder.
Watch that it doesn't pop out too quickly, because it will fly away and you will never see it again.
Or Slide a clean piece of cloth behind the handle & then rotate the handle, the metal clip will catch on the cloth & pop out. Simple!!
Remove lock surround.
Note most of these on Skylines are broken.
There should be a clip holding it down at the back and two clips on the left and two on the right.
When I bought my car, they were all siliconed to the door because the clips were broken.
I got some from the wreckers.
Use a screwdriver to pry away the surround around the door handle.
The trim is clipped to the door with plastic clips around the edges.
CAREFULLY remove these using a screwdriver around the edges near the clips to pull them away from the door itself.
Remove the door trim away after all the clips are removed.
The top edge against the glass has to be carefully taken off by pulling one end up from the window and lifting.
Inside of the door.
The plastic is glued on with green glue.
Usually goes back on without more glue but not always.
It might need more glue afterwards.
Carefully pull away to get to locking mechanism.
Central locking motor covered with plastic.
My last one rusted out because rain was getting between the seals around the glass.
Nothing, I can do about it, I might try some silicone (messy) but the plastic stops it from rusting out now.
The central locking location and the arm which connects.
It needed tightening because it's slipping and not pulling shut.
Putting back together is the reverse.
