The screw holes for jap plates and the holes in the bootlid for aus plates are out. First thought was to re-drill the plates but:

1. re-drilling plates looks cheap and tacky

2. the 2 holes needed to be drilled right in the middle of the script

Supplies[edit]

1m x 50mm x 6mm flat bar (6mm thick, 50mm wide, 1m long - shortest off the shelf length)

1x packet of metal tek screws M10x16mm (i chose the flat head with star point "phillips head" drive)

1x packet of 3/4 flat washers (to pack out in front / behind when attaching)

Tools[edit]

1 power drill / battery drill

Metal drill bits (5mm for the bootlid mounts, 4mm for the tek screws to bite into)

1 angle grinder / saw

Steps[edit]

1. Measure up the bar roughly to the length of the jap plate (or slightly shorter to allow it to be hidden behind it when finished)

2. Cut the flat bar to the measurement and double check. Grind sharp edges as required

3. Take over to car, and mark on the lower half of the bar the location for the holes to match the bootlid (leave about 10mm to the bottom of the material)

4. Drill the 2 holes with the 5mm drill bit, then using the mounting screws you would already have, screw the bracket into place

5. Take jap plate, and sit it central in the garnish. Mark hole positions onto the bracket. Remove bracket and drill with 4mm bit

6. Re mount bracket. Get tek screws, add a washer or 2, and use phillips / star point bit in drill to gently screw into the bracket.

Finish result: One jap plate mounted with no modification to the plate or the bootlid
