5 Stud Conversion

From R31 Skyline Club Wiki

Converting to the common 5x114.3 PCD wheel stud pattern provides for more wheel and brake upgrade options.

Front[edit]

Australian models are fitted with a front strut with an incorporated hub and disc rotor design. This design limits options for replacement discs and hubs. HR31 hubs are not compatible with the Australian R31 stub axle, and use a floating hub design where the disc rotor is seperate to the hub, however, the struts are interchangeable.

  • Late-Z31 turbo front hubs with standard HR31 struts
  • S13 front suspension conversion with aftermarket 5 stud hubs
  • S13 front suspension conversion with S14 ball joints, uprights and hubs
  • HR/R31 hubs re-drilled to suit

Rear[edit]

Australian models are fitted with live axle rear suspension, and components are not interchangeable with the Japanese HR31 independent rear suspension.

Japanese[edit]

  • Late-Z31 turbo rear hubs with re-drilled rotors

Australia[edit]

  • Aftermarket 5-stud 28-spline axles
  • Ford Falcon EA 28-spline axles shortened, re-splined and hardened to suit
  • R31 standard axles re-drilled to suit

Re-drilled axles[edit]

It's easy to do when you have a MIG and lathe handy. Everyone's always worried about heat build up on the hub but by doing heaps of little tacks and keeping it cool with an air blower there's was very little heat transferred into the hub. All that's left to do now is get some blank rotors and drill them as well.

Here's is a picture after we welded up the holes.

The hub machined flat.
