Badge removal

Removing Badges[edit]

This is a commonly asked question in regards to the cosmetics of the R31.

Badge removal is a very simple process. Unlike older cars, the R31 has adhesive badges. They are not invasive, so once you have removed them, there are no holes left underneath. They are held on with a layer of black double sided tape.

Before you begin![edit]

Before you begin to remove your badges, be aware that once the badges are off, you may be left with dark patches where the badges once were. Remember, the paint underneath the badges hasn't been exposed to daylight in 15+ years.

Due to popular opinion, our members have decided that the best way to remove badges is as follows.

Items required for removal:

  • Hair dryer
  • Fishing line

And your prefered choice of any of the following products to remove the sticky residue:

  • Methylated spirits
  • Big Kev's goo remover
  • Prepsol
  • WD40

Use the hair dryer to heat up the badges. This will help to make the gum on the adhesive tape turn "gooey". Once your gum is gooey, grab a length of fishing line, and run it along behind the badge. If you encounter too much resistance, heat it up a bit more. Once the badge is off the car, you will find that you are left with a sticky mess. Apply some of your chosen residue remover to a soft cloth, and apply it to the gum. Don't try to rush this step, you may end up damaging your paint. Gently rub at the gum in a circular motion until it is all removed. Once you've got the gum off, wash the area to get rid of any excess residue remover.

DONE!
