Headlights
The headlight configuration varies between the 4 cylinder Pintara and the 6 cylinder Skyline.
Bulbs[edit]
H4: Larger, twin element (high/low) H1: Single element, small
Skyline Series 1/2[edit]
The series 1 and 2 Skyline models use a combination lamp assembly with a composite lamp mounted on the inner side of the combination lamp. The combination lamp consists of an outer low beam and an inner high beam. The composite lamp is a high beam.
- Low beam: Outer beam 60 watts (H4 - low beam element)
- High beam: Inner beam 55 watts (H1)
- High beam: Composite beam 55 watts (H1 - high beam element)
Skyline Series 3[edit]
Series 3 do not have the extra spotter, and act the same as the s1/2 pintara.
- Low beam: Outer beam 50 watts (H4 - low element)
- High beam: Inner beam 55 watts (H1)
- High beam: Outer beam 60 watts (H4 - high beam element)
The H4 outer beam is either in low beam or high beam, it doesn't use both elements at once.
Pintara[edit]
Pintara models use a combination lamp assembly consisting of a parking lamp on the outer edge, an outer low/high beam and a high beam on the inner.
Lamp illumination and wattage[edit]
- Low beam: Outer beam 55 watts
- High beam: Outer beam 60 watts
- High beam: Inner beam 55 watts
Parkers[edit]
These are 5 watts usually, with the s1/2 being a blade type bulb, and s3 being a metal cap bulb.
Projector Wiring[edit]
For $30 you can get a pair of these adapters from Nissan, to connect projectors to non-projector wiring, and they have to be ordered from Japan.

If you wanna do it cheaper you need 4 bits of 16 gauge wire about 100mm long, 4 male blade connectors and 4 female blade connectors. Now the standard R31 headlights have H4 dual filament bulbs in them and the R31 projectors have H3C bulbs in them, the H4 has 3 pins and H3C has 2 pins.
Also a pic of the female blade connectors, the red one is completely insulated so if it comes off the bulb and hits the body of the car it won't blow the fuse ;)
The plug that goes on the H4 bulb looks like the pic below, the back of the plug opened up has 3 wires going to it, the red with blue strips is the low beam wire, the red and white wire is the high beam wire and the black is the negative.
The pic below shows which connection points you use on the 3 pin socket you want to use, it does not matter which one is positive or negative cause the bulb will work either way.

Lighting Earth[edit]
The lighting system is earthed through these crimp rings bolted to the back of the driver's headlight. If they are not attached, the lighting behaves very strangely - indicators come on instead of lights, lights don't come on at all, high/low beam switch does something weird.
