Rubber Flare Front Lip

From R31 Skyline Club Wiki

Well it was crunch time for me, every one else seems to be putting front lips on. But I dont like the idea of using garden edging so I went out to "Queensland Diesel Spares" and bought some "truck wheel arch flare" it's made from rubber and it can flex if you happen to hit anything, thats a bonus in my eyes.

Tools needed[edit]

  • 1 - 10 mm spanner
  • 2 - 10 mm socket with small extention
  • 3 - Phillips head screw driver
  • 4 - Read the how to on front and rear end S3 conversion, it will help you in getting the front bumper bar off, or if you're lazy you can just jack the car up and work upside down.
  • 5 - Sharp knife
  • 6 - 2.6 M of rubber flare (I bought 3M for $36)

Procedure[edit]

1 - Remove the front bumper bar from your car.

2 - Turn the bumper bar over and sit it on grass (or carpet) so you don't scratch the bar up.

3 - Trim the rubber so it's straight at the end and line it up with the end of the bumper bar.

4 - Attach the first screw into the rubber and then screw it into the bumper bar, be careful that you don't go through and it pokes out through the good side!!!

5 - Start screwing it on, I put a screw every 100mm (or 4 inches if you are old school).

6 - When you come to the corner you will find that it doesn't want to flex. Now is where the knife comes in handy, trim the inside edge of the rubber strip so it can flex around the corner and put a screw either side of the corner.

7 - Keep on screwing it down.

8 - Do the same as step 6 for the other corner.

9 - It should look like this at this stage.

10 - Replace the bumper bar filler panel and grille.

11 - Step back and enjoy how good it looks for a $40 job.
